'7am - 8am drawings' 2016 - 2018

7am - 8am drawing #1

14/09/16

watercolour ink on bockingford paper

The 7am-8am drawings were made using watercolour inks as I listened to an audio recording taken in my home between the hours of 7am and 8am on a weekday. This time of day is often very stressful as a single mother I struggle to get my three children ready for school and for the day. There are often fights and arguments and cries of tiredness and refusal. In daily life the voices of the children remain dominant in my memory as their physical presence are often experienced as a blur. As a mother I am always in action, constantly moving and merely catching glimpses of the children but their voices are strong and clear in my experience. As the colours representing each person in our family flow into each other and bleed they correspond to colliding, forms cutting across one another are formed as people interrupted one another. Shapes responded to pitch, volume and tone following a lyrical flow of colourful shapes that muddy as the line progresses and colours mix.
